Knowing your Discount Stock Broker

Any aspiring stock investor must be able to get a good stock broker. Whether you are stock trading for fun or to earn big money, any good stock trader must find himself a good brokerage firm. There is really no hard and fast rule on choosing your stock broker. Different stock investors have different needs when it comes to stock brokers. Some stock brokers, like the full service stock broker, gives stock investment advice. They get to know the trading and investment behavior of the stock investor and then recommend stocks or investments. They charge more because they offer more. Other investors prefer to do the stock analysis themselves. They would often refuse the stock advice of full service brokers, which is why they choose discount brokers. Other investors choose to have both the full service broker and the discount broker. Others prefer multiple accounts with multiple brokers. The number of stock brokers a stock investor has is not important. What is important is the reliability, efficiency and easy access of your stock broker. Any stock investor must be able to trust his stock broker to buy or sell the stocks he says, when he say it. A stock broker must also be easy to get in touch with especially when the stock investor changes his mind about a certain stock.

As you would have probably guessed by now, there are two general kinds of stock brokers in the market that stock investors can choose from. The full service broker and the discount broker, as the name may give out; discount stock brokers cost less than the full service stock broker. This is because they give less service than the full service stock broker. Discount stock brokers rarely ever ask anything about the character of the investor. The investor and broker rarely see each other, if at all. This means that unlike the full service stock broker, discount stock brokers do not give out investment advice to the stock investor. What the discount stock broker requires is for the stock investor to open an account that must have a certain amount to be able to trade. The discount stock broker then awaits the stock trading commands of the stock investor. That basically covers the services of the discount stock broker. He only executes your stock trading orders. The good news about discount stock brokers though, is that they cost a lot less than full service stock brokers, which is good news for investors who want to trade multiple times in a day.
