The Wall Street is a famous street in New York City, located at the lower Manhattan Island. The Wall Street runs from Broadway down to the South Street on the East River. It is a famous street in New York because it has become the home of the New York Stock exchange and is known as the home of the financial industry in the whole New York City. The major United States stock and exchangers has found a home in the Wall Street, including the NYSE, NASDAQ, AMEX, and the NYMEX.
The name of the famous street in New York was obtained by the historic wall that once stood there. During the time of the 17th century, the Wall Street formed the northern boundary of the New Amsterdam settlement. This wall was strengthened over time and served as a defense from the attack of Native American tribes, New England colonists, and the British. The origin of the New York Stock Exchange started in the late 18th century. There was a buttonwood tree at the foot of the Wall Street wherein traders and speculators would always gather in order to trade formally. The association of these traders was formalized with the Buttonwood Agreement.
The name Wall Street may be used to label some of the corporations today as some are called or labeled as a Wall Street Company. This does not mean that the company is physically located at the Wall Street. What it means is that the company is most likely dealing with financial services. Even if the company is located at the other side of the globe, it could still be labeled a Wall Street Company. Some of the professional who work at the Wall Street are experts in the fields of law and finance who are handling medium to large corporations.
The Wall Street stereotypes are known in the whole world. Some would think that they’re simply corporations who protect their own interests and who thrive to earn more and more money. The term Wall Street was also made popular with The Wall Street Journal, an influential international daily business newspaper published in New York City. The Wall Street Journal has become the second most read newspaper in the United States, next to the USA Today. However, t is the most famous business publication in the whole world. The newspaper serves international and national news with a business and financial perspective.
